Beer Bread

Beer bread is delicious, simple to make and only requires a few ingredients to make the basic bread. Usually I add some others to “spice it up” a little: ground black and/or red pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder and/or minced onion, basil, etc… I also like to add a little shredded cheese, usually cheddar. I’ve never tried pepper jack cheese, but I have always thought that would be really good too! While the bread is baking I also like beat an egg white and mix in some of the seasonings and Parmesan cheese.When the bread has approximately 10 minutes of baking time left I open the oven door and brush on the mixture and then finish baking it.

The recipe:

12 oz. beer
3 c. self-rising flour (or sub 3 c. all-purpose flour + 3 Tbsp. baking powder)
1/3 c. sugar

and the optional additions:

desired seasonings
shredded cheese
egg white
Parmesan cheese

In large bowl mix the flour and sugar (and seasonings/cheese if using) and then slowly pour in beer. Stir to mix – batter will be very stick.

Put into a greased 9×5 loaf pan.

Bake in 350 degree preheated oven for 50-60 minutes.
